      About this tool

Paste-your-PDF-into-a-chatbot summarisers send the whole document to a server. This one does not: it reads the text layer on your device, weights every sentence by how much of the document's vocabulary it carries, where it sits (openers and the first page count for more) and how new it is compared with sentences already chosen, and returns the best ones in reading order with page references. Type a question instead and the same engine returns the passages that answer it.

The default engine is extractive — the document's own words, never invented ones — which is what you want for contracts, reports and papers where a paraphrase could change the meaning. Switch to the AI engine for a fluent written summary or a direct answer: the open-source Qwen2.5 (0.5B) model runs inside your browser on your graphics chip after a one-time download of about 350 MB that stays cached, so it works offline afterwards. Key terms and a reading-time estimate come with both, and you can download the result as Markdown. Scanned PDFs need OCR first.

      How it works

      1. Step 1. Choose or drop the PDF (or a .txt / .md file).
      2. Step 2. Pick the engine and a length, or type a question.
      3. Step 3. Press Summarise; read it on the page or download the .md.

      Questions

      Is this an AI summary?

Two engines, both on your device. The default is extractive: statistical ranking of the document's own sentences, no model, instant. The optional AI engine runs the open-source Qwen2.5 0.5B language model inside your browser (WebGPU where available) — it downloads about 350 MB once from Hugging Face, is cached, and then works offline. With either engine the document itself is never sent anywhere.

Can it answer a specific question?

Yes — type the question and you get the passages most relevant to it with page numbers (extractive), or a written answer with page citations (AI engine).

Why are some sentences oddly cut?

Sentences are split on punctuation; PDFs without punctuation (tables, slides) produce long chunks. Try a shorter length or use the reader's search.

      Good to know

      • AI engine: ~350 MB one-time download; a small model — check its output against the document.
      • Scans need OCR first.
      • Tables and slide decks summarise poorly with either engine.
