      About this tool

Phone photos of documents are tilted, grey and surrounded by desk. This tool measures the tilt (±10°) from the text lines and rotates the page straight, crops the background away, then either auto-enhances contrast, converts to grayscale, or thresholds to crisp black-and-white (Otsu). Output as JPG, PNG or a ready PDF.

Cleaning before OCR noticeably improves recognition; run OCR PDF on the resulting PDF to make it searchable.

      How it works

      1. Step 1. Choose or drop the scan(s) or photos.
      2. Step 2. Pick mode (auto, grayscale, black & white), deskew, trim and output.
      3. Step 3. Press Clean up and download.

      Questions

      How accurate is the deskew?

It corrects tilt up to 10° in 0.1° steps; the note reports the angle applied (e.g. "deskewed 1.8°").

It cropped my margins — why?

Trim crops to the content box. Turn Trim off if you want the original margins kept.

Can it fix a photo, not a document?

It is tuned for dark text on light paper; photos (lots of dark area) are left unrotated.

      Good to know

      • Deskew assumes dark text on a light page.
      • Trim cannot remove edge lines spanning the whole width.
