      About this tool

Each page is rendered at the DPI you choose, converted to grayscale and embedded back on a page of the same size. The result prints cleanly on mono printers and is usually smaller. Because the pages are re-rendered, the output is image-based; choose "keep text layer" if the tool offers it to retain searchable text.

      Nothing is uploaded.

      How it works

      1. Step 1. Choose or drop the PDF(s).
      2. Step 2. Pick 150, 200 or 300 DPI.
      3. Step 3. Press Convert and download <name>-gray.pdf.

      Questions

Will the text still be selectable?

Pages become images; where the "keep text layer" option is available an invisible text layer is added so search still works.

      Which DPI should I use?

200 DPI for office printing; 300 if the document has small print or fine lines.

      Does it reduce file size?

Often, especially for colour scans; text-only PDFs may grow because they become images — compare the note.
